Tanggol is deeply involved in advocating the enactment of national and local laws and policies promoting environmental rights, good governance and conservation. The institution significantly contributed in the passage of the new Fisheries Code of 1998, the adoption of the new Rules on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the refinement of the Clean Air Act, the crafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Clean Water Act, and the formulation of several protected area bills and laws. Local policy intervention includes assisting communities, local groups and LGUs in drafting ordinances, resolutions, and management policies.

The organization is also involved in reviewing DENR policies on harassment suits filed against field personnel or duly deputized agents, developing networks with other legal institutions, and identifying possibilities for cooperation with them.
